The Crete Woman’s Club is proud to announce the 2020 Crete-Monee High School College Scholarship winners.
Receiving a $2000 Academic Scholarship is Zoe Koehl, Crete, who will be attending the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, majoring in architecture. She was very involved in school activities as an All-Conference varsity soccer player, Math Team captain and two-time state qualifier, and Scholastic Bowl All-Conference as well as team captain. Zoe served the community as a youth leader, and volunteer for the Crete Park District, Crete Library, and Will County Forest Preserve. She excelled academically as a student who was on the honor roll, a member of National Honor Society, and an Illinois State Scholar. In her essay, Zoe wrote as a past Crete Woman’s Club Summer Camp Scholarship winner she attended camp at Illinois Tech. “This experience in particular helped me to realize that pursuing a career in architecture was the right choice.”
The second $2000 Academic Scholarship recipient is Chloe Quin, of Crete, who will attend Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois as a biology major with a pre-veterinary emphasis. She worked as a veterinary assistant at Plum Creek Regional Medical Center. While attending Crete-Monee High School, Zoe was a member of the Concert, Marching, and Pep Bands, a member of Math Team, Science Club, and a peer tutor. She also volunteered at South Suburban Humane Society and PAWS. Chloe distinguished herself academically being on high honor roll for all four years, as a member of the National Honor Society, and an Illinois State Scholar. Also so a past Crete Woman’s Club Summer Camp Scholarship recipient wrote, “While I initially fell in love with veterinary medicine due to my passion and love of animals, I have a drive to tackle any challenges that come my way…”
Caden Ordanas, Crete, has been awarded the $1500 Technical Trade Scholarship. He will be attending Prairie State College with an interest in fire science and emergency medical services. Caden has worked as a Crete Park District life guard and swim instructor. He volunteers with the Crete Fire Department, and at First Presbyterian Church of Chicago Heights. While at Crete-Monee High School, he was a member of the wrestling team and the Marching Band. In his application, Caden wrote, “As a cadet with the Crete Fire Department I have not only grown to love my desired profession but also found a desire to pursue my education in the field.”
The members of Crete Woman’s Club wish these students much continued success as they continue their educations.
Peyton Budlove, of Crete, received a $350 Junior High Camp Scholarship. He will be attending Football Camp in Manteno. Peyton attends Illinois Lutheran School where he is in band and on the wrestling team. Football is his passion. The Woman’s Club hopes he will enjoy his summer camp experience.
